About Us

Hi-Rail Training Co. is a startup built on 20 years of hands-on industry experience—including time spent building and delivering hi rail training programs for two of the three major hi-rail OEMs.

We don’t claim to be the factory—but we know how they build, how they train, and more importantly, what gets missed when things hit the field. That’s where we come in.

Our goal is simple: support OEMs, upfitters, and end users by providing factory-quality rail gear training where it’s needed most—in the shop, not the classroom. We help take pressure off the manufacturers by delivering real-world instruction that keeps crews safe, gear running, and inspections clean, all while aligning with FRA inspection training standards.

We focus on on-site training for DMF, Rafna, and Continental systems—covering installation, inspection, maintenance, and common issues—all aligned with FRA expectations for competent person instruction. Every session includes a certificate of completion, not a certification—because we’re not here to replace the OEMs. We’re here to help them keep moving.

If your shop is short on time, needs better training, or just wants fewer call-backs—we’re ready to assist with our comprehensive hi rail training solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at matt@railgeartraining.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. Both Rafna and Continental authorize us to provide training, and our classes will be listed on their websites as well as ours.

Most classes run 6–8 hours. We usually begin around 9 a.m., with the first half in the classroom and the second half working directly on the trucks. Timing may vary depending on participant involvement and truck availability.

  • Classroom space — a conference room or meeting area with seating and a TV or screen for presentations.

  • Trucks — at least one light-duty and one heavy-duty truck with rail gear installed.

  • Access to rail — or simulated rail (3"x2" thick-wall square tubing works great).

  • Tools & Equipment (must be shop-owned; not provided by us):

  • 20-ton jack

  • Masonry string

  • Bottle jack with pressure gauge (for light-duty pressures)

  • Alignment tools for both light- and heavy-duty gear

  • Covered area for weight setting and alignment work

You can contact us directly through our website or by phone/email. We’ll coordinate dates, class size, and location to fit your schedule.

We can conduct classes at your facility, on-site with your trucks, or at partner locations, depending on your needs.

Yes. Upon completion, each participant receives a Certificate of Completion documenting that they’ve been trained with FRA requirements and OEM guidelines.
